Ian Heptinstall
Ian Heptinstall is the director of supply chain for NG Bailey. He has accountability for an annual spend of over £450 million (2008-9) across a wide range of goods and service categories, and leads a team of over 70 procurement colleagues.
A chartered engineer, Ian has worked in engineering and construction for 30 years since he joined the chemical company ICI as a student engineer. Since then his career has taken him through roles in engineering, project management, procurement, business development, and management consultancy. He has worked in industries including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, engineering services, manufacturing, retail, and since 2004, the construction industry.
His procurement experience in a project environment has covered many bases from selling and delivering project services to buying them, buying as an “amateur” (project manager) as well as a “professional” (procurement manager), with experience as a management consultant as well as an employee.
